Frequently asked questions
What is the break-even point?
It is how much you must sell to cover all your costs — the point where profit is zero. Sell more than that and you make a profit; less, and you make a loss.
How is break-even calculated?
Break-even units = Fixed costs ÷ (Selling price per unit − Variable cost per unit). The bracket is your contribution margin — what each sale contributes toward fixed costs.
What counts as fixed vs variable cost?
Fixed costs stay the same regardless of sales (rent, salaries, utilities). Variable costs change per unit sold (the cost of the goods, packaging, per-sale fees).
